About the event

‘Stand like a Mountain, Flow like a Great River’

Lao Tzu – Tao Te Ching

The human body is a landscape of consciousness, every hill and valley embued with meaning, function, energy and emotion. It both houses and shapes our internal world.

Many of us have lost connection to the richness and depths that can be accessed through inner vision. The body is the primary interface, the mediator between our mind, our heart and the deep wells of our being.

There is a mistake that is often made on the path to self-knowledge that we somehow have to deny the body. Quite the opposite, in order to get past our physical body we have to embrace it, empower it, enliven and flow with it. Slow rhythmic movement synchronised with the breath and a relaxed focus, the ancient Chinese arts of Tai Chi and Qi Gong not only enable us to access the inner architecture of our being but can also breathe life back to our whole energetic system.

Like an iceberg, our conscious mind is merely the protruding tip above the sea, our subconscious is the vast mountainous monolith below. The resistance we face from diving deeper comes from the lifetime of accumulated trauma and pain that has slowly condensed to form the emotional body armour encasing the energetic matrix of our physical bodies. Tai Chi and Qi Gong raise our vibration and create flow gently releasing the trappings of our mind, body, emotions and energy. The iceberg slowly rises above the water level as we breathe light and positivity into it and there is no better method than mind-body exercise.

This session will be both an introduction to Tai Chi and Qi Gong and a new way to experience your body and your deeper self. If you are looking for a deeper connection to life and the natural flow of being this is the workshop for you.

The workshop will be split into two parts. In part one, you will learn about the map of our physical and energetic bodies and how you can use it to guide the mind into deep self-exploration and connection with the calm peacefulness and love that we all seek. This will include an introduction to the Chinese meridians and the enigmatic concept of Qi (pronounced chee) energy. Each meridian relates to an emotion and you can experience these through movement and focus.

In part two you will have the opportunity to directly experience the wonderful calm meditative movements of Qi Gong and Tai Chi for yourself.

Tai Chi and Qi Gong are movement arts that can lead us to great heights of experience and great depths of the soul. As the great master Bruce Lee said:

“When one has reached maturity in the art, one will have a formless form. It is like ice dissolving in water. When one has no form, one can be all forms; when one has no style, he can fit in with any style. Art is the way to the absolute and to the essence of human life. The aim of art is not the one-sided promotion of spirit, soul and senses, but the opening of all human capacities – thought, feeling, will – to the life rhythm of the world of nature. So will the voiceless voice be heard and the self be brought into harmony with it.”
